For The Better Democracy

Goodman Naorem *

Dear Friends,

Need For People’s Awakening

Truth only can change things for the better!
Truth only will liberate us and never by false promises and wrong doings!
Sincerity is the expression of truth in practice! Are our political leaders sincere?

When leaders are sincere about bringing better changes in the society they first should bring love and unity among the people. Where there is love and unity; all the projects and programs for the people will succeed else they will fail.

Corruption is the expression of insincerity that means it was done to benefit someone or a few people only not for all.

Corruption starts with elections at the first place.

Candidates elected by bribing the voters will do the same bribery system applied towards the people when they start ruling the people after elections.

Corrupted leaders have the excuse for their corruption because people were also corrupted at the first place accepting the bribes and favors from the candidates at the election time!

This vicious cycle of ‘who is first: hen or egg’ continues till people realise that the so called leaders representing people are not the bosses of the people but they are the servants of the people!

When people realise the truth that we are the masters to bring a better democracy, a better government; then, the first duty of the masters [people] is that they show the good principles of not accepting the bribes or favors from the servants [candidates].

But the problem in a country like India where so many people are poor and desperate all the time for money and favors; is that people with short-sighted gains trade-off their valuable votes for some immediate money or favor during election time and thus lose out to far-sighted big money and high favors of development and assistance due to them under good governance that should happen under corrupt-free elections!

So, in the democratic system of rule that is prevalent almost everywhere in the world as of now; people’s mindsets of the past kingdoms, kings, queens, colonies and colonial masters etc have to be thrown away and clearly conscious now that we are reborn to freedom of human rights that we are our own masters to rule ourselves!

When people wake up and fully aware of their rights and duties; when people are corrupt-free themselves while choosing their representatives; then only a better democracy popularly defined as the rule of the people, by the people and for the people; will manifest bringing progress, prosperity and happiness to all!

Need For Change in Election System

Since elections are conducted under rules and regulations and people are bound to follow them; it is a must that all the existing rules and regulations of the election system be brought under total review with the sole objective of screening out all the loopholes of corruption during the elections.

There should be strict rules on the eligible qualifications of the candidates. Democracy meaning giving equal rights to the people doesn’t mean that anybody ABC or XYZ can be the candidate. Only good, knowledgeable, qualified, capable, active, broad-minded, social service-oriented, physically and mentally fit, non-corrupt, non-criminal, non-fanatic people should be eligible for the candidature.

So, very strict screening of the candidates is a must at the first stage of the election process. All the rules and regulations of election should be re-written or amended at the earliest to empower this screening of the candidates for public elections.

No distribution of cash or kind or favors by the candidates or by the political parties to the voters for election should be allowed and those who do so should be disqualified for candidature or political party-ship.

Some refreshments, fruit-juices, tea, coffee etc at the election campaigns or meetings are ok.

Voters who accept bribes for voting also should be punished by law either by fine or jail or both.

Officials or security personals who are involved in conducting the elections should be dutiful and sincere and if found guilty of non-dutifulness or corruption; they should be punished by law either by fine or jail or both.

The maximum expenditure limit of candidates as already fixed by the Election Commission should be enforced by law.

No religion, caste, race based political campaigns should be allowed and those who do so should be punished by law.

Free and fair election should be held without any pressure or threat from any group and those who do so should be punished by law.

There should be awareness programs and meetings for the voters to discuss about why corruption-free election is good for all; where fully knowledgeable speakers should convince the people for supporting corruption-free and pressure-free, free and fair election to choose only the good candidates.

Spiritual Democracy: The Best Democracy!

The wisdom of party-less election on the spiritual [good and pure] platform is where there is no need for any political party but people elect the good and reliable person who is known good by the local community. Local community knows best who is who in that community.

Such good people elected from all the local communities from villages, towns, cities, states can form all-inclusive administrative bodies and governments at the village, town, city and state, country level.

While forming such all-inclusive administrative bodies and governments; all the elected members are all responsible planners as well as critics; there is no need for oppositions because all the members will act as ruling and opposing members at the same time bringing all issues on the discussion table and sorted out amicably with the sole aim of doing everything for the best welfare of all.

In such spiritual democracy, all the diverse people can be united easily as their governments and administrative bodies are all-inclusive.

In such spiritual democracy, there will be no unnecessary fights among different groups of so called political parties bringing big divides among people especially during election time.

Since people elected in such spiritual democracy system are all good, pure and sincere people, none of them will indulge in corruption and if one or two black-sheep ever emerged, can be easily isolated and flushed out of the system holding immediate re-election for those few corrupts.

There will be no wastage of public money for unnecessary wars or defence preparations with the neighbouring or other countries when such spiritual democratic governments are set up around the world; instead countries of the world will have good, loving, caring, cooperative and harmonious relationships: government to governments and people to people.

However, such kind of heavenly spiritual democracy is possible when there are more good people than bad in the world and when majority of the people in the world are awakened to the spiritual reality of oneness and inter-connectedness among us all above the mundane considerations of religions, regions, races, castes, creeds, sex etc.

Improving Present Democracy

While waiting for the coming of the spiritual democracy, we have to try our best to improve the present democracy system in that less is better than more viz the less of political parties the better; the less corruption the better; the less involvement of religions in politics the better; the less of racial involvement in politics the better; the less selfishness of the leaders the better; the less criminals in the politics the better, the less man-domination to women participation in politics the better; the less false egos of the political parties the better... as of now, since, majority are on the wrong path, the less in everything on what’s going on in the name of democracy is highly called for!

Happiness for all!

Thank you!
