First ever Model UN Conference in North East India to be held at Kohima

Intense preparations are currently on for the first ever Model UN Conference in North East India to be held at Kohima from December 16 to 18.
In a press conference held today at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur, Secretary Members of the North East India International Model United Nations (NEIMUN) informed media personnel that the application dates have been extended to November 15.
Secretary-General, Limabenla Jamir expressed hope that through the conference, young leaders from the region and neighbouring areas are brought forth. She also shared that young people from the region need to understand the importance of diplomacy and current social affairs. We aim to facilitate youths to make the conference a springboard to equip themselves and aid in making valuable issues of global concerns. Through participation in the conference, a critical analytical mind apart from diplomatic skills that will ultimately be honed, she said.
Also, Limabenla felt that young people from Nagaland will all the more be able to identify to the issues NEIMUN have chosen. We hope to equip young people to express their thoughts and ideas and be able to express them creatively and confidently, she said. She also added, "We believe through support of UN we will be able to impact young citizens to be effective citizens".
In this regard, Imkumsungla Longchar, Under Secretary-General Communication also stated that the main objective is to train and equip participating delegates with skills on public speaking, negotiating, policy analysis, conflict resolutions, group communication, lobbying, and leadership with the assistance of keynote speakers. During the three days Model United Nations Workshop cum United Nations General Assembly Simulations will be held. She also informed that participants should come prepared to discuss and deliberate draft resolutions on topics of international importance with focus on the UN's 3 pillars-peace and security, sustainable development and Human Rights.
Likokba Sangtam, Under Secretary General, Delegate Affairs also shared his experiences participating in the UN and how the skills he learned were helpful. Opining that what affects globally affects locals too, he said, "Global issues are very much practical and applicable locally". He shared that his friends often ask him on the purpose of being involved in global issues, and said that Professions are for one's survival but knowledge is for the self. He encouraged, "This if the platform for you to get educated. And the more you participate the more you will learn".
Adding to this, Secretary General, Limabenla also acknowledged, "This is a very new concept, and we understand people's scepticism but we want people to understand the benefits and we hope to receive participation from all colleges and individuals in this first UN model conference in NE".
