Fest to give voice to regional films
- Film, Northeast 2016, showcasing over 70 films, begins in Itanagar

Indian cinema does not mean just Bollywood and Film, Northeast 2016 - a four-day film festival showcasing over 70 films from the Northeast - aims to prove just that.
At the festival's inaugural ceremony here this evening, legendary Manipuri auteur Aribam Syam Sharma said Bollywood films are not necessarily reflective of the entire country. "In India our films are called regional cinema but at international film festivals outside, our films are called Indian films," he said.
Sharma's films have been shown in festivals across the globe, including at Cannes. He was awarded the Padmashri in 2006. At this festival, he will curate seven films for the Magic Mirror section.
