Fall Edition of IIT Guwahati Model United Nations is back
26th June, 2015; Guwahati:
The corridors of power increasingly make their ways into headlines and public discussion, but the actual decision-making process gets lost intranslation. If you have ever wondered how it would be for the delegate of a nation to voice an opinion among tens of others with entirely different interests and beliefs and yet find common ground for agreement - you might be in for an answer.
Academic simulations of such forums have existed ever since the first global forum - the League of Nations, came to be. With an increasingly connected world, its successor, the UN and other bodies with global reach have been dominating more and more of our headlines, naturally skyrocketing interest in such simulations. Popularly known as the MUN, such conferences witness sophistication and intellect rivaling that of their real-life counterparts.
A year back, MUN knocked the doors of North East's largest Techno-management festival, Techniche as IIT Guwahati hosted the fall edition of its very own conference, and created quite a stir as it did so.
Delegates from all over the nation and also from overseas, convened under the finest of chairpersons and carried out exhilarating discussions on contemporary and historical issues for the 3 days of IITG MUN. The embassies of Sweden and Israel sent their greetings and support while the Swedish Ambassador to India, HE Mr. Harald Sandberg and the Maharaja of Tripura, Pradyot Manikya witnessed a few sessions in person to encourage the delegates.
As Techniche prepares for its 16th Annual Extravaganza, the much-awaitedconference is set to return with animating committees, broader agendas and all the more finesse. Here's a rundown of all this edition has to offer: The industrial society has historically allowed technology to get ahead ofitself, resulting in noticeable, sometimes irreparable damage before we realize it is happening. But as the consequences increasingly get Earth-shattering in the literal sense, can we afford this laxity? The first committee at IITG MUN 2015, The International Atomic Energy Agency convenesat the freeze date 24th of September 1986, following the fateful accidentat Chernobyl, USSR to implore.
War and Economics are not two topics that can be discussed in isolation.Yet, as the mercenaries of yesteryear give way to colossal corporations with deeper pockets, deadlier armory, battle-hardened strategists and thousands on payroll, the question is relevant like never before - how muchoverlap is too much? The Security Council convenes at IITG MUN to lay downthe rules.
Politics and policy pervades just war and doom, as is evidenced more and more as sports organizations make headlines for all the wrong reasons. With sports increasingly mirroring society and taking up from there some unpleasant characteristics like inequality and corruption, diplomaticdiscussion becomes ever more important.
As the final committee at the IITG MUN, European Club Association convenes to lay down the guidelines for the highly controversial Financial Fair Play and discuss the course ofaction on the uncomfortable questions raised by the Qatar WC bid. The applications for delegates and executive board have been open for quitesome time now, and with such a diverse set of agendas and committees, it would be interesting to see what transpires as the conference opens its doors from the 4th to 6th of September 2015.
