Faculty Openings

IIT Kharagpur, an Institute of national importance, is the first and largest in the chain of fifteen IITs engaged in teaching, research and development requires high quality manpower. The Institute invites application from Indian nationals, possessing excellent academic background, commitment to quality teaching and potential for carrying out outstanding research.

Qualifications

Ph.D. with first class or equivalent in the preceding degree in appropriate branch and evidence of the ability to pursue independent high quality research.

Experience for the post of

Professor : At least 10 years teaching / research / industrial experience of which 5 years should be at the level of Associate / Assistant Professor.

Associate Professor : At least 8 years teaching / research / industrial experience of which 3 years should be at the level of Assistant Professor.

Assistant Professor : At least 3 years teaching / research / industrial experience.

Scale of Pay

Professor : Rs.18400 – 500 – 22400/-
Associate Professor : Rs.16,400 – 450 – 20000/-
Assistant Professor : Rs.12000 – 420 – 18300/- plus allowances as admissible to Central Government employees. (Pay is likely to be revised as per Sixth Central Pay Commission)

Reservation : Without any compromise on qualification, experience and competence, reservation as per Government of India rules is available only at entry level positions of Assistant Professor.

Academic reimbursements and other incentives

1. Initial grant up to a maximum limit of Rs. 5 lakhs for carrying out research projects.
2. Full funding for attending national conferences either for presenting a paper or chairing a session as per Institute guidelines.
3. Financial assistance up to Rs.1.00 lakh once in 3 years for attending International conferences either for presenting a paper or chairing a session as per Institute guidelines. An additional amount of Rs. 50,000/- is being given from the SRIC fund to the faculty members who is the Principal Investigator of a Project amounting at least Rs. 15,00,000/- and has at least three Published Papers in referred journals in the preceding three years.
4. Reimbursement of 75% of membership fee of one international professional society every year.
5. Contingent grant as per Institute rules.
6. Reimbursement of telephone charges up to Rs.750 per month.
7. Reimbursement of relocation charges from within India to the faculty members at the time of their joining.
8. Interest free soft advance of Rs. 50,000/- to the newly recruited faculty members.
9. Honorarium of Rs. 15,000/- per month to the teachers who have obtained Bhatnagar Award/Honorarium of Rs. 15,000/- per month to teachers who are fellows of atleast two National Academics .

• Minimum requirement of experience may be relaxed in respect of outstanding candidates.
• Mere eligibility will not vest any right on any candidate for being called for interview. The decision of the Institute in all matters will be final. No correspondence will be entertained from the candidates in connection with the process of selection / interview. Canvassing in any manner would entail disqualification of the candidature.
• The Institute reserves the right to call only the requisite number of candidates for interview after shortlisting with reference to the candidate's qualification, suitability, experience, etc.
• Ph.D. qualification has been waived in case of recruitment of faculty at the entry level (Assistant Professor ) for the Department of Architecture & Regional Planning, School of Medical Science & Technology and Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law.
• The candidates should be preferably below 35 years of age for the post of Assistant Professor
