Emptiness
Soffy Nongmeikapam *
Running down my forefinger
On the library form,
I felt a sudden choke.
No longer could I hold myself
As my heart plunged into blackness.
Strong I have been
For quite a long time.
But the word 'father' in the form
Had my heart struck
With a hard slash of pain.
Filling up forms were always his part,
And today this ordinary paper
Has acquired the power
To break my heart into pieces.
It seems like only yesterday
Though three months have passed.
Memories strike back
As emptiness torture me,
And it's still hard to believe
I have bid the hardest goodbye.
I regret for never taking a chance
To explain you meant the world to me.
But today through this muddling verse of mine,
I express my indebtedness to you.
And so long as I can breathe,
Your memory will remain a keepsake.
