E-Pao! Opinion - Economy Blockade

Economy Blockade

By:- R.K. Shivachandra *

"A frog, which half portion is swallowed by a monstrous serpent tries to catch whatsoever comes its way" is evident now in the present trend in Manipur.

We, the people of Manipur are sailing together in a deplorable boat and water piercing in it yet the old habit dies hard that we are trying to push one another down the water.

Dry the water from the boat first and start the argument next. For it is natural to have this sort of tip even in the 'model' family. This will continue so long as the human beings exists.

We should also understand the boat we sail, is especially designed by some "no good son of the soil" so that the boat shrinks and people in it perishes thus the story came to the end. The classic story of two nagging kittens quarreled over a loaf of bread... and consequently a shrewd monkey intruding in the guise of a mediator, promised them an equal share but it doesn't happen the cunning monkey ate it all.

Now the two hungry kittens but have to weep to their heart's content facing each other.

Is not this the lesson, we read in our 2 standard (Anisuba) in the Lower primary schools in the old schooldays? But after 30 years the lesson taught to us by our local teacher when we were crouching down on a piece of gunny bag became so important and it evokes like an old scriptures that tells the future.

"Economy blockade"......

"God! Are you sad when it pours down in Manipur"? I would love to ask this question directly to the God.

Why you choose Manipur as a fertile ground of "economy blockade" and other forms of violence?

Why the people should suffer this much when you always proclaim your self- existence and made your presence felt in many ways in the Holy Churches, Mosque and temples etc.

Religious leaders said, "Almighty you are omnipresent, omniscient". But not a sign of it or simply you are also another corrupt being as your people are in Manipur? Pastors, Pundits and gurus... ask this to your god and bring to an end to whole this mess.

You can heal a limb and some even cured a tumor in the brain. We have heard it many times but have not seen in reality how these miracles are being performed? Do it now... We will believe you if you throw away this so called bandh from the face of Manipur once for all.

The situation in Manipur is worsening day after day. Wealthy people can cough up to Rs 60 for one-liter petrol or 25 Rs. for an onion K.G., but doesn't occur to the poor one.

Tamenglong, Chandel of which, essential commodities mainly supplied from valley affected to a degree. Now the agitators should swallow the fact and the good angel should act in their brain.

In a democratic set up we have right to demand anything... ask anything ...this comes directly to the Government. The deal is between the Government and agitators.

It has nothing to do with the local masses. When the economic blockade imposed, the unscrupulous businessmen who hold the strings of Manipur's economy laughed their way to the bank. Economy blockade meant another late night "cocktail party" for those who sits on the Gaadi with spongy pillow.

Every telephone calls show the price tags higher and higher. There are heavy taxes collected on the National Highway by certain groups but ultimately the poor people have to pay the price for the business men well understand that how much percentage has to be added in their profit.

A small Chinese calculator shows it instantly. ...a very easy mathematics indeed. In the long run we are the losers. Not only the valley dwellers but also those inhabits in this tiny land-locked State.

So now the story of the shrewd monkey repeats in the same old arena. How long we will continue this? A slight sack of earthquake in this tiny region will reveal who is who. We are the people who are to face the same faith and the fortune as well. We cannot change it. History has proved it time and again.

As a humble citizen of this Country, I would also ask the sincerity of the India Government that if the same blockade ever occurred on an important National Highway in Delhi or Mumbai, whether the Central Government would remain silent spectators as it is in Manipur today. This doesn't mean to bulldoze the Highway passage with force and unnecessarily to hurt the sentiments of the agitators.

But in the process let us also digest the surroundings and swallow the pill no matter how bitter it is. Manipur is just a 'dot' in the big Indian map. The National papers and the think tank as they always preferred to be known as elsewhere in India have no time to ponder over the issue of Manipur and give a clear picture of it in the National papers.

What the Ibobi Govt. is doing also not known. For quiet often the SPF Govt. seems to be very slow in the process and lacks sincerity if the past three years are of any indication. The proverbial "slow and steady wins the race" is not applicable in the fast changing world order.

What the Chief Minister should understand and expectation of his people is "To be fast and prompt in action and being steady at the same time too". Ostrich thinks at turbulent time that by hiding its head in the layer of sands will simply refrain from dangers but dangers and turbulent never go unvisited the scene.

The burning down of State Central library in Imphal was simply an outcome of being a "slow coach". Had he been little sensitive and prompt in tackling the situation, the State library, which is known to be the powerhouse of knowledge, could have been saved but that was not occurred?

Hon'ble Chief Minister never came out with his shining amour or like a good politician. Better he acts and learned the proverbial 'A stitch in times saves nine'. I believe Our Chief Minister is not an imported Chief Minister.

The blockade has entered 18 days but the people who are to solve the problem is still busy with some file works in Delhi for another skyscraper Super markets in the National Capital.

For them the rate of crimes in Manipur is measured in term of people being killed and by the numbers of causalities. Then the attitude is very much close to the concept "let them go on war and prize would belong to the winner". What a devil in their brain?

Let there be a dialogue .......... a meaningful one. Let this be settled amicably among the people of this land in the close doors. Let us first try to the find out the missing line and 'love' that once prevailed over this land. Love and peace can speak not by any force in the world.

For the moment what we can do is to kneel down and pray the Almighty that peace revisits to our adorable land.

"The reduction of the Universe to a single being, the expansion of single being even to the God, this is love."
- Victor Hugo
