Meeting in Bengaluru on August 23 2012
In connection with the en masse movement of people of Northeast from Bangalore, the Government of Manipur deputed Dr. Kh. Ratankumar, Hon’ble Minister for Works and Transport, as a special emoissory to Karnataka.
Yesterday, Dr.Ratankumar had a meeting with Shri R.Ashoka, the Honble Dy.CM and Home Minister in his residence. During the meeting Dr.Ratankumar appreciated the personal initiative taken by Shri R.Ashoka, the Dy. CM in ensuring the safety of the people of Northeast amidst rumours of violence.
Dr. Ratankumar extended an invitation to the Honble Home Minister. Shri R.Ashoka gladly accepted the invitation and promised Dr.Ratnkumar that he would visit Manipur, stay for overnight and appeal to the people who have left Bangalore to return as soon as possible.
Today, the 23rd August 2012, we had a meeting with the representatives from the Manipuri Diaspora in Bengaluru, which included office bearers of Manipuri Meitei Association Bangalore, Kuki Students organisation, Zoumi Youth ganisation, senior officers working in the IT industry, retired Army officers, and a few people who have taken up residence in Bangalore.
The meeting was presided by Shri C.K. Jaffer Sharif, the former Union Minister for the Railways, and Dr. Kh.Ratankumar, the special emissary from the Government of Manipur.
During the meeting all appreciated the measures and efforts taken by the Government of Karnataka and were full of praise for the various religious leaders who have given such a message of reassurance that Bangalore has not, and will not suffer from communal disharmony.
Shri C.K. Jaffer Sharif spoke for the media in Manipur (IS TV) live and urged all the people who have left5 the State to come back. He reiterated that Karnataka has always been a peaceful State and people are secular. He also said that any threat to any community is a threat to the unity and integrity of the country.
Dr. Kh. Ratankumar , the Hon’ble Minister moved around in the city and in the outskirts of Bangalore without security personnel and he was pleased to note that the city is very peaceful and calm unlike the image that was initially depicted.
