TSA defers proposed indefinite highway bandh to protest against AR assault on TSA Secretary General
The Thadou Students' Association (TSA) has decided to defer the proposed indefinite bandh bandh along all the highways in Manipur that was scheduled to begin from the midnight of November 27, 2018. The bandh was called to protest the physical assault of Michael Lamjathang Haokip, Secretary General of TSA-GHQ, by 12 Assam Rifles at Sita Lamkhai Check Post, Tengnoupal on the 12th of November 2018 and inaction of authorities.
This decision was taken following a fervent appeal from the Chief Minister's Office to call off the bandh in view of the on-going Sangai Festival while assuring that he would address our grievances and take up necessary actions after the festival which is scheduled to end on November 30.
A meeting was held today between TSA leaders and Assam Rifles authority led by the DIG, 26 Sector of Assam Rifles, but it was decided to hold another round of meeting as a definitive agreement on all the demands put up by TSA could not be reached in today's meeting.
However, if our demands are not met and our grievances not effectively addressed as assured by the authorities within a reasonable time, TSA will be left with no option but to launch the indefinite bandh on national highways (Imphal-Jiribam, Imphal-Dimapur and Imphal-Moreh roads) at a later date until the demands are met and justice is delivered.
