Days of tension for parents and students : Preparing for Board exams
- The Sangai Express Editorial :: February 20 2016 -
Days of tension for parents, guardians and of course the young students.
In a few days from now, thousands of students across the State will be appearing for their Class X and Class XII board exams conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur, Council of Higher Secondary Examination, Manipur, Central Board of Secondary Education and the Indian Council of Secondary Education.
An annual affair it is and while marks and performances in these examinations will not and cannot be the yardstick to judge the performance of a student in life, it is however true that the young students will be largely judged by how they fare in these examinations.
In the absence of any other yardstick, it is again going to be marks and more marks which will judge the performance of these students.
It is the duty of all parents and guardians to prepare the young students for these important exams, but how about society as a whole ?
Has society as a whole really acknowledged the immense pressure under which the young students have to prepare for these exams and for life ?
Judging by the way things are going, it is more than clear that not much thought has been given to the immense pressure that has been mounted on the young minds and this cannot be healthy for anyone.
Excellence, this is what the world has acknowledged and while excellence cannot be equated by one’s performance in the annual examinations, it however stands that these examinations do impact on the life of the young students.
The competition is immense. And this is where it becomes important to come to the point that the competition is today no longer confined within the State of Manipur.
Just think about it. In a few years from now, the young students who are set to appear for their Class X and Class XII examinations will need to compete with their counterparts from across the country and even the world.
The question is how well are they being prepared to face the challenges from across the border ?
Time to take stock of the reality and do something about it.
It absolutely makes no sense to disturb the academic pursuit of the young students, but it is highly disturbing to note that no one seems to have given any thought to this.
This is precisely the reason why one sees young students being called out to take part in affairs which should ideally be left to the adults of society.
Competition is tough and the Class X and Class XII examinations need to be seen from a larger perspective.
In the globalised world, it makes no sense to see competition only within the State.
The Sangai Express joins in wishing all the young students the very best in the upcoming examinations.
