The nominations to the Democratic Post Graduate Students (DPGS) for the year 2006-08 were finally completed on 1st of May 2006 at, Gauhati University, Guwahati. The proposed names were given approval in the presence of Mr. James D.Sangma, former Secretary, North Eastern Hill University Students Union.

This year Mr. James A. Songate, a MA (History) final year student from Cotton College, Gauhati University was nominated for the President post and eventually approved by the Nomination Committee to head the student body for the two year term. Mr.Robert L. Sungte, a MA (Mass Communication and Journalism) student from Mangalore University, will be the Gen. Secretary.

The DPGS, which is a platform for northeast students from various universities across the country, is not affiliated to any political parties.

Its sole aim rests in the academic field of students at the post-graduate level.

DPGS is trying to work out a common interest and to find workable solutions to problems of students of northeastern states in various Central and State universities within the country.
