DM's Inspiration Episode 5 - Renowned Art Personalities motivate young minds

Folk Art forms languishing with no formal Institute for research and teaching, says Aribam Shyam

The world knows Manipur for its unique talent in Arts and Culture. The state is endowed with many aesthetic artistic values and cultural heritage gifted by our forefathers. However, we face difficulties to express our artistic talents, said renowned film maker, Padmashri Aribam Syam Sharma while delivering an inspirational talk during the Inspiration episode 5 organised by Dynamic Manipur with the theme ‘Arts, Culture and Entertainment’ held at Hotel Imphal on December 7, 2014.

Indigenous folk art forms of the state including Khongjom Parva, Pena, Khunung Ishei etc. are unique and have its own aesthetic values. With the state failing to set up any formal institute where such folk art forms can be learnt, some folk art forms of the state are languishing with the present generation ignoring the art forms. The state which is famous for its rich art and culture has not opened up a separate culture department in the Manipur University, the highest think tank of the state, he said.

With exception to those few art lovers, no parents encourage their children to be Artiste. They like their children to be a Doctor or Engineer. As such, the destiny and survival of Manipur Art and culture is uncertain, lamented he.

Dynamic Manipur’s Inspiration Episode 5 is a continuing talk event series organized by Dynamic Manipur to motivate the young minds with the eminent personalities in different fields sharing their life journey face to face with the young people. The motive behind this episode is to create awareness of the importance of Arts, Culture and Entertainment to a society among the Manipuri youth. It is also to encourage the Arts & Culture loving youths to make their career as an artiste. Manipur needs thousands of such artistes to promote our culture and identity to the world and make waves of a dynamic society in Manipur.

Pung Cholom performed by the Artistes of Manipur Cultural Ashram led by Oja Akoijam Ibomcha), popular Manipuri dance ‘Leima Jagoi’ performed by Vandana & her Party and Khunung Eshei, famous Manipuri folk song by Mangka Mayanglambam mesmerized the gathering of the Inspiration talk event.

The event was organized with Babina Diagnostics, Imphal Hotel by the Classic, CC Tea - The Sui Generis Inc. Imphal, Shija Hospitals & Research Institute, Imphal WiseWorld Immigration and Education Consultants, Toronto, Canada, Likla - Thangjam Agro Industries Pvt. Ltd., Imphal as official partners while Manipur Times, Impact TV, The Peoples’ Chronicle, Manipur Photography Club as Media and Photography Partners. Siroi Offset Printers, Thoubal, Globizs supported the event as Printing and Technology Partners.

As endorsing partners, MIMS, Manipur University, Korea Manipuri Association (KMA), North American Manipur Association (NAMA), Manipuri Association of Canada (MAC), Malaysian Manipuri Association (MMA) also extended their generous support towards successfully conducting the event.

Dynamic Manipur is a registered non-political and non-religious not-for-profit organization with its mission to uplift the State of Manipur through the Society’s Motto of “Dynamic Change for Dynamic Manipur” under its vision: “Inspire and Empower the Youths; Create a Prosperous Manipur”. DM members are drawn from the Manipuri Diasporas all over the world and the dedicated Manipuris in Manipur committed to bring a dynamic change in Manipur, said Devadutta Sharma of Dynamic Manipur while giving his introductory speech during the event.

He said that one of the key primary objectives of Dynamic Manipur is “Education, Consultancy And Inspiration” as described in Objective No.1 of DM’s Memorandum of Association. In order to fulfill it, DM needs to engage the youth of Manipur by providing them with a platform to interact with the renowned personalities of Manipur and also with the DM core members.
