Don Bosco College, Maram stood third in the Swachh Bharat Summer Internship 2019 (SBSI) programme which was presented by Minister of Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, report our correspondent.
Mention may be made that following the PM's clarion call on October 2, 2014 for each individual to devote time to Swachhata and following the enthusiastic response from the youth of India to the 'Swachh Bharat Summer Internship 2019', the Ministry of Jal Shakti in association with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and HQ NCC launched the Swachh Bharat Summer Internship 2019 – 50 Hours of Swachhata.
The programme aimed to engage youth across the country, develop their skills and orientation for Solid Waste Management (SWM), and sustain the momentum of the Swachh Bharat Jan Andolan.
It has been reported that Sweta William Parmar, the dynamic and creative programme officer together with ten enthusiastic NSS volunteers led by team leader Pretty Inkah successfully accomplished the project of 50 hours of internship solid waste management related activities in the neighboring villages of the college which include waste collection drives from each household and common/ shared spaces, segregation of solid waste into non-biodegradable waste, cleaning of streets, drains and back alleys through awareness drives.
Team leader Pretty Inkah said that the initiative of the ministry was a real challenge for NSS team to carry out in the villages surrounding the college.
"It has boosted our morale and made the community realize the mission of Swacch Bharat", added Pretty.
On winning the award, programme officer Sweta William Parmar expressed that the hard work of the volunteers has been rewarded and appreciated the jury for recognizing their work. She also expressed gratitude to the Principal of the College Fr Dr KO Sebastian for his enormous support for the said internship.
