Cry Of A Dying River...76
Rajendra Kshetri *
I am no longer the river I was once
The river that flows through a tiny valley of
The largest democracy on Earth
A democracy where elections are the biggest festivals
Festivals of 'machine ' 'money ' and 'muscle ' manifestations /powers
The power of people to right a wrong
The power of electoral franchise to choose
The good the bad and the ugly
The power to bring change and development
Lost in the power of 'drinks' 'drugs' and 'freebies '.
I am no longer the river I was once
The river that has been a dispassionate observer
Of all the elections in the post-Merger era
Elections that put politicians on a pedestal
Politicians who turn a 'Nelson eye' to people's plight
Common people whose lives have been pauperised
Elections that never address 'Environmental Concerns '
The 'depleted forests' 'shrinking lakes ' and 'water bodies '
The 'plastic menace ' 'polluted rivers' and 'vanishing flora and fauna '
The river that awaits An Election on AGENDA ENVIRONMENT.
