Cry Of A Dying River...34
Rajendra Kshetri *
I am no longer the river I was once
The river that is in the news of late
For all the wrong reasons though
Not because it serves you fresh water unpolluted
Not because it presents picturesque river sights
Not because the river bed has been dredged
Not because the (supposedly) extinct indigenous fishes
Are sighted swimming up stream from Loktak
The river most polluted that’s in the news
Oh pollution! What have you done to Nambul???
I am no longer the river I was once
The river that is again in the news now
For the right reason hitherto unheard of
What a refreshing change for once
The river that wears a new look
A look that seemingly gives a fresh lease of life
What with the filthy basins cleaned and dredged (?)
The illegal encroachers/constructions dismantled
The river in full flow flowing freely
If only if only non biodegradable trash and plastics are not carried down to Loktak. .
