Cry Of A Dying River...32
Rajendra Kshetri *
I am no longer the river I was once
The river that harks back many a times
The emotional bonding with the village folks
The shared love care and concern
The river that now carries the 'burden of town folks'
The river that is more like a 'beast of burden'
Not the 'white men's burden' though
The river that is colonised by 'decolonised' men
From a free-flowing vibrant river
To a listless journey of insipidity.
I am no longer the river I was once
The river that grieves for the disappearing rivulets
Flowing down the folds of hillocks
And streams streamlets and tributaries
Sparkling in the sunlight in the valley
The lustrous bodies of water
Unspoiled and untouched by the 'greedy hands'
The river that is now flooded with multiple sewage
Contagious untreated and unchecked
The river that is on the edge of deoxygenation.
