Cry Of A Dying River...19
Rajendra Kshetri *
I am no longer the river I was once
The river that flows with fervent festivity
With no clean water to be in festive mood
In the land of fair and festivals
Fashioned by people who love celebrations and congratulations
Festivals after festivals after festivals
The 'SANGAIS' the 'ORANGES' the 'PINEAPPLES' the 'LEMONS'
All basking in the glory of populist drama
The river that is encircled by festivals and fairs
The river that is bereft of a festival on her name.
I am no longer the river I was once
The river that loves reminiscing reminiscences of yore years
The enchanting sight of beautiful 'leikai' damsels
Enjoying morning/evening bath in open air along the banks
What with the captivating aroma of 'CHENGHI'
The river that came across no 'prying eyes'
No 'peeping toms' no 'prurient thoughts' no 'sexist attitudes'
The river that witnessed no rapes no molestation
The river that heard no lewd comments
Oh!! "The Times They Are a-Changing".
