Cry Of A Dying River...18
Rajendra Kshetri *
I am no longer the river I was once
The river that still retains its unique identity
Against the onslaught of Western-centric development mode
An identity that is no threat to anyone
An identity that is too precious to be compromised
In the 'digital' world aka 'global village'
The river "our river" our own indigenous river
The river that is the only one of its kind in the valley
Of being the one and only to 'originate' and 'end' in the valley
Oh people of all creeds! !! how long could this unique identity be preserved? ??
I am no longer the river I was once
The river that caressed the once luminous Loktak
On whose serene lap were cradled
The legends of 'Haoba-Konu' 'Khamba-Thoibi'
The river that now cries for the lake
Languished under layers of non-biodegradable trash
Nature made me flow full stream to the Lake
The river that I was
Man makes me turbid and flow half-empty with polluted water
The river that I am now.
