Cry Of A Dying River...14
Rajendra Kshetri *
I am no longer the river I was once
The river that has been until now
A living sanctuary of rare uncaged birds
The 'Nongoubis' the 'Ngarakpis' the 'Khambrangchaks'
Basking in the unrivalled beauty of nature
The spectacular spectacle of hyper-fast 'Srmbrangs' criss-crossing the riverine air
The nimbleness of 'Ureng kondongs' guarding the river banks
The sight of sleeky 'Sanambas' diving in and out
Where have all the birds and mammals gone missing
Water birds and mammals that did no harm to you.
I am no longer the river I was once
I didn't/don't envy your highfaluting social life
I didn 't/don't fancy your affluent life
Take your social status and save it for show off
Enjoy your filthy wealth and flaunt it for self gratification
(Ab)use your political power for self-familial promotions
I want none of it none of them
I couldn't care less
Give me my eco-system my aquatic life
That life of florae and faunae revelling Nature's myriad manifestations.
