The President of the Naga Mothers Association(NMA), Neidonou Angami has appreciated the State Chief Secretary RS Pandey, who is also State Vigilance Commissioner, and his team for their successfully cracking down to pension rackets in the State. The NMA President said by such strong steps taken by Chief Secretary and his team could save huge amounts that could be utilized in various developmental activities.
It may be mentioned that a Special Investigating Team of the State Vigilance Commission has successfully conducted the physical verification of the State pensioners in all the eight districts of the State, thereby saving an amount of Rs 12 core per annum by stoppage of payment of fictitious and bogus claims. The Chief Secretary also said intensive investigations were being carried out in all the districts to unearth more such frauds and to fix responsibility for the same.
He said monthly pension payment to all the illegal/bogus pension claims and fictitious pensions numbering 1064 have been stopped, which has resulted in the financial savings of Rs 12 crore per annum. An official in Accountant General Office (AG) here told this correspondent that the Chief Secretary and his team's recent drive to check illegal, bogus and fictitious pension claims was laudable. He said most of the people have wrongly projected AG for such fraudulent drawal cases but in fact AG is just like a Post office where your letters are sorted out to their respective destinations.
"Unless Government takes drastic steps to such frauds, things would continue", he stated. "And the recent crack down on the rackets by the SIT of the State Vigilance Commission was the right step". NMA President said the idea of communitisation of public institutions in the State was encouraging and further hoped such initiatives would help at the grassroots level in the state. She has however suggested that in line with the introduction of communitisation of public institution, Government also should educate the rural people as to how they could properly utilize the funds they received.
