Contained but final word yet to be said ? Visit of observers
- The Sangai Express Editorial :: October 05 2019 -
For the moment, the internal dissent within the ruling BJP seems to have been contained to a certain extent.
But given the topsy turvy world of politics and the shenanigans that politicians are capable of indulging in, the final word may not yet be said, and perhaps the first test for the Chief Minister will come when a reshuffle is effected. Reshuffle, this is probably the reason why the Centre has decided to depute Central leaders to Imphal soon to ‘settle things.’
Reshuffle with blessings from the Centre for the Chief Minister obviously cannot take the ‘risk’ of displeasing anyone within the BJP or its partners in the coalition Government and the next best
course is obviously to do things with blessings from the Centre.
This is where it will become interesting. If a reshuffle is to be effected then would this mean a few Ministers getting dropped from the Council of Ministers and fresh faces being inducted ?
If not then would reshuffle stop at reallocating the portfolios held by the Ministers ?
All questions at the moment, but nonetheless important for this could have an impact on the BJP led Government.
What makes the Ministry formation all that more interesting is the fine balance that has to be struck in terms of regional representation, community wise representation and obviously keeping the coalition partners satisfied.
Not an easy task, but yet again not an impossible one, and this is where the leadership quality of the Chief Minister will again be put to test.
With blessings from the Centre, any voice of dissatisfaction or dissent may be quelled for some time, but cannot guarantee satisfaction to everyone and how the BJP leadership manage to strike the balance
between the compulsion of a coalition Government and the need to have a strong and effective Government will go a long way in addressing basic questions which will make all fall in line.
The reason why reshuffle has been raised here lies in the fact that the Centre has decided to depute some Central leaders in the next few days.
Most probably it may not be due to any pressing need to address the internal dissent within the BJP, for this is an issue which has already been discussed with Union Home Minister Amit Shah,
who is also the president of the BJP and Working president of the BJP, JP Nadda at New Delhi in the last two days.
Reshuffle then looks most likely the reason why some Central leaders have been asked to visit Manipur.
Whatever it is, despite the internal dissent seemingly addressed to a certain extent, till date there is no answer on why the voice of dissent was raised in the first place.
Did it concern any issue which concerns the larger interest of the land and the people ?
Were there corruption charges raised against the Chief Minister ?
Remember Narendra Modi rode to power in a convincing manner in 2014, pledging to cleanse the rot after the then Congress led Government was riven by a series of corruption charges, which came
tumbling out one after the other.
This question still remains unanswered and as stated earlier the last word however is yet to be said and the voice of dissent may continue as working out a solution does not necessarily mean that all voices of dissent have been silenced or persuaded to accept the status quo.
