Career options in printing press

When we hear of press then we think of either a printing press or media. In this edition we would like to tell our readers more options and avenues related to printing press. Printing press has been available since the invention of the printing machine .
In today’s digital world there has been much changes and there might be more changes in near future. Many of us might remember the person writing on walls and making banners and working like spider man to draw and write big hoardings and now all of them has replaced by flex.
There are different designation and responsibilities associated with printing press. The main avenue in this regard is of print technology. The most popular applications of printing are newspapers, periodicals and hoardings, which include colour magazines, books, brochures, posters, catalogue, pamphlet, banners, etc.
Career avenues when it comes to printing press also vary. Required human resources are also different for different capacities. Some of the post or options are Printer Engineer/ Print Technologists, Printing Manager, Printing Supervisor, Graphic Designer, Production Manager, DTP Operator, Proof Reader, Quality Manager etc.
Print Technology: Printing technology courses are offered in India at different levels like diploma, Bachelor degree, Masters Degree which are offered at universities, institutes and at the polytechnic level.
The eligibility for admission in Printing Technology Courses is also different for different levels. The course involves studies in subjects like Technology of Printing and Packaging, Materials Science, Mathematics, Science, Business and Management Studies.
Bachelor courses are of four years duration and diploma course is one to one and half years. Print technology is a career area most suited for mechanical minded as well as creative individuals.
Graphic Designer: A graphic designer is a professional within the graphic design and graphic arts industry who assembles together images, typography, or motion graphics to create a piece of design.
A graphic designer creates the graphics primarily for published, printed or electronic media, such as brochures/ pamphlets and advertising. They are also sometimes responsible for typesetting, illustration, user interfaces, and web design.
A core responsibility of the designer’s job is to present information in a way that is both accessible and memorable. A graphic designer is important part of the printing press as creative work and well designed matters are always welcomed. This is a profession which needs to be very creative.
The best part is someone with less academic qualification but having creative minds and experts in computer system may become graphic designer. We shall publish more options in our next edition.
Updates – CLAT: Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is conducted as per a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the convenience of the students seeking admission to various National Law Universities in the country. An entrance test is conducted to provide a list of candidates on the basis of ‘merit-cum- preference’ to each University for admission to their Under-Graduate (UG)/Post-Graduate (PG) programmes, as per the eligibility, reservation and other criteria laid down under the respective Statutes of the participating Universities. Last date for sending application is 31st March.
Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarships 2018 : The Aga Khan Scholarship or International Scholarship Program (ISP) is provided by Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) and provides a limited number of scholarships per year to outstanding students who cannot found their own education for pursuing full time postgraduate studies. The Scholarship is also offered for PhD programs if the student is exceptionally talented and requires a PhD for fulfilling his/her career objectives . Aspirants may apply before 16th March.
