Whenever we visit any shopping malls or big complexes or apartments then we can find lifts everywhere. Nowadays lifts and elevators are common in cities and urban places. Be it airports, railways stations, shopping malls or even apartments, lifts are essential everywhere.

The increase in demands in lifts or elevators is bringing opportunities for the people who are associated with it. In today’s edition we shall discuss lift technology as a career option.

The lift industry is regularly going through numerous advancements; some of the most current could revolutionize the way elevators operate in buildings and apartments. There are several notable trends and how they are altering the industry.

Demands for lifts or elevators are there for people who find it difficult to walk or for comfort as we do not use staircases but it is brining opportunity for young people. Lift Technology or Elevator Technology is a booming career ground which might provide plenty of job prospects in the country or even outside the country.

Lift technicians or mechanics are well trained professionals who can handle all the matters related with the lift, elevators and related equipment. They are in charge of repairing and servicing of lifts, escalators, elevators, chairlifts and other electronic transport equipment in commercial, residential and industrial buildings.

Other responsibilities include from installation to maintenance, renovation, regular servicing which ensure safety and other matters related with lifts or elevators. Courses in Lift Technology involve the study of subjects related to installation, servicing and commissioning of lifts; its classifications, structural designs etc.

This is a technical area and it is preferable for the students coming from Science background. There are many diploma programmes which can be opted after Class X. Aspirants need to know electrical systems and others which are taught in few institutes in the country. Though it is preferable for the engineers, diploma holders may also join in the profession with their expertise and experiences.

Courses like Diploma in Lift Technology, Advanced Diploma in Lift Technology and PG Diploma in Lift Technology are available. Placement is available for the right candidate and designation in these fields includes Lift Engineers, Lift Supervisors, Lift Technicians etc. Apart from academic qualifications one must possess employability skills to excel in this profession.

NIFT Entrance: Set up in 1986, National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is the pioneering institute of fashion education in the country and has been in the vanguard of providing professional human resources to the textile and apparel industry.

It was made a statutory institute in 2006 by an Act of the Indian Parliament with the President of India as ‘Visitor’ and has full fledged campuses all across the country. Aspirants may apply for the courses available at NIFT’s campuses for admission to 4 years undergraduate and 2 years post graduate professional programs for the academic year 2022.
