Career option in Psychology

With the increase in population there are many problem arise for individual in many perspectives. There are some conflicts which are within a person. Human's mind is most precious and it is powerful too. Good minds mean new creation and innovation which bring changes in the society. Psychology is a branch of science that deals with mental processes and behavior.
Psychology is mainly concerned with the way the mind works. Many students ask me about the scope and opportunities of Psychology. It is a branch of science that deals with mental processes and behavior. It is the systematic study of human and animal behaviour, mind and thought.
Psychologists study the processes, motives, reactions, feelings and nature of the human mind. They are not medical students or doctors. One can pursue Psychology at the plus two level, graduate, post graduate and doctorate level.
Psychologists teach, practice and do research or work in one of the many branches of applied psychology. It is a subject which needs patience .There are other attributes needed for same like good communication skills, interest to work different kinds of people from different communities. Aspirants may work in development sector especially in conflict areas like north east. They may extensively work for the welfare of the people who are affected by conflicts.
Psychologists work in a number of different settings, including universities and colleges, primary and secondary schools, government agencies, private industry, hospitals, clinics, and private practices. They may be employed in social welfare organizations, research establishments, rehabilitation centres, etc.
Career prospects in Psychology depend on the area of specialization. Some specializations are like as follows:
* Clinical Psychologists - Clinical Psychologists work in counseling centers, independent or group practices, hospitals, community health centers or clinics.
* Counseling Psychologists - Counseling is the skill of helping normal people, through discussion, to decide how best to cope in specific situations.
* Social Psychologists - Social psychologists work with social organisations and institutions in research, systems design or other applied psychology fields.
* Educational Psychologists - They work in schools and colleges with teachers, students, parents and administrators to resolve students learning and behaviour problems.
* Sports Psychologists- They are concerned with the psychological factors that improve athletic performance. They also look at the effects of exercise and physical activity on psychological adjustment and health. Sports psychologists typically work in academic settings and/or as consultants for sports teams.
More opportunities would be there in future as this is one of the emerging subjects. More problems could be seen in today's society, so there would be more scope for individual who are expert from this subjects. Apart from doing individual counseling, one may also opt for group counseling. Successful individual may start their own counseling chamber or centre apart from working in other organisation or institutes. Different institutes and universities offer courses related to psychology.
NDA Examination: Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is going to conduct written exam on 27th September 2015 for admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the National Defence Academy for the 136th Course, and for the 98th Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC) commencing from 02 July 2016.
