The Northeast India has got diversified geological conditions, topographical characteristics, climatic situations and vegetation types. But the economic growth is much below the expected scenario. One of the main reasons is the poor connectivity from rest of the country. The need to establish connection with the rest of India for economic development and trans-border connectivity has been impelling the central government to construct roads in the region since independence. However, impediments such as terrain and climatic conditions, insurgency, and mismanagement of resources have also put brakes on the development of the road network in the region. To overcome the hurdles, all roads and transportation technocrats and best minds of India’s infrastructure and public private partnership (PPP) need to focus on past, present and future aspects of road and transportation system of North-East region of India and finally focuses on how best infrastructure could be developed for North-East region.
The best part of the conference would be to collectively focus at the entire north-eastern region level on issues that are acting as challenges for the development of the road and transport infrastructure. Coming together of PWDs of all eight North-Eastern states (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim & Tripura) will certainly drive those issues towards solutions.
Thus this conference has been planned to look into the maximum aspects where, connectivity can be done with the rest of the country in an effective manner using latest techniques, which will definitely improve the status of NE region not only in India but also in the rest of the world by way of better tourism. Further, this conference will focus on the ambitious vision to ensure North-East region at the forefront of the roads and transport infrastructure.
Presentations from leading government and industry specialists would provide strategic analysis of the opportunities and challenges. As a high-level forum for discussion, debate and doing business, the conference will also help.
