Boomerang psalm 7
Bienhome Muivah *
Psalm 7 was written during a negative experience David had with "Cush, a Benjamite". Cush is referred to in scripture only here. Who he was, remains unknown, but he was probably a relative of King Saul. From this passage, it appears David has been slandered. In praying for deliverance from his slanderous enemies, David affirmed his innocence while appealing to God for vindication.
Scripture records David being the recipient of such injustice on more than one occasion. Most Bible scholar believes David wrote this psalm when he was fleeing from Saul's men.
Saul had unjustly tried to kill David twenty one times, but God continue to deliver him. Saul had also falsely accused David of trying to assassinate him and take over his kingdom. If you are keeping score, the score is against David. He is outnumbered and being slandered.
If you have experienced unjust accusation, you know it doesn't feel good. No matter how unjust the circumstances, it's important for you not to retaliate out of your feelings.
Reacting from your feelings won't do any good anyway. Instead, follow David's example and go to God in times of persecution. In psalm 7:1-2, David released his vindication to God. He indicated that if God did not come to his rescue, he would be destroyed like a lion rending his prey into pieces.
Have you ever sat in a court room? Two sides tell their story and a judge decides who is right. Through much of David's life, the "other side" told wild, untrue stories about him.
Perhaps some of you have experienced something like that. May be you have experienced an unjust law suit. Perhaps you have neighbor who simply does not like you and makes up stories about you to other neighbors. That may sound silly, but it happens. You may be experiencing jealousy. Saul obviously was jealous of David.
In court room, any judge can detect a crazy story and mile away. You have the judge of the entire universe on your side. This psalm reveals Him as a just Judge who will judge us according to our righteousness.
Focus on doing what is right, not on what someone else is doing wrong. God will take care of it. In verses 15 and 16 reveals that the wicked fall into their own trap. Their wickedness will boomerang on them.
Satan is the ultimate force accuser. We know what is awaiting him.
The just Judge of the universe has thrown every false accusation against you out of his court room. So whenever you are faced with false accusations or persecution, turn it over to the Lord.
He will vindicate you.
