Akademi Young Talent Award: Theatre

Born in 1972 at Thoubal Awang Leikai, Smt. Bachaspatimayum Sobita Devi is one of the few young and talented female theatre actor-directors of the State.

Although a graduate in Home Science by academic qualification, her ardent love for dramatics drew her to the realm of theatre.

Having completed Sangeet Visharad in vocal and a one-year certificate course in dramatic arts, she embarked on a theatrical voyage, a journey in which she has achieved success and recognition.

Presently an artiste and associate director of Manipuri Ensemble, a professional theatre repertory, Smt. Sobita Devi has acted in more than thirty plays, directed fifteen plays, and written over ten plays.

She received the best direction award in 2001 at the 32nd Short Play Competition for Creative Directors organised by Theatre Centre, Manipur.

She was also adjudged the best director at the 19th Patliputra Natya Mohotsav-2002, an all India multilingual drama competition held in Bihar.

She also bagged the best director and best actress awards in the subsequent edition of the competition.

Smt. Sobita Devi has also participated in various national theatre festivals and workshops besides conducting theatre workshops in rural areas of the State.

She is also the founder and artistic director of Actor's Repertory Theatre, Manipur.

In recognition of her talents and accomplishments, Smt. Bachaspatimayum Sobita Devi is honoured with Manipur State Kala Akademi Young Talent Award.
