Showcasing an eclectic collection of work from three artists encompassing various mediums including acrylic, oil, photo ink, water colour and charcoal, the first art show of the Delhi based The Kolorbox was a runaway success. It was a treat for art enthusiasts, collectors, curators and individual art buyers.
The exhibition put up at the Convention Foyer of India Habitat Centre from 28th to 30th June had created quite a buzz with widespread media coverage. The exhibition showcased 20 paintings of Dinabandhu Marndi, Dilip Oinam and Sandeep Jigdung who hail from Orissa, Manipur and Assam respectively.
Soubam Priyananda, founder of The Kolorbox says, "The exhibition attracted many art lovers, media, artists, individual buyers, collectors, gallerist and prominent figures from the art Industry. I am quite humbled by the overwhelming response "Strokes from the East" has received. The artists associated with us are very talented and they deserve this." Some of the galleries in the Delhi art circle even booked the artists for group shows and solo shows, he added.
Encouraged by the success of the exhibition, The Kolorbox has already started planning for the next show and wishes to make it even grander to cope up with tremendous response.
Sandeep Jigdung, one of the participants of the exhibition said, "The exhibition was a nice exposure for me. It also gave me an opportunity to showcase life and culture about North East through my work. I would look forward to working again with The Kolorbox ."

Dilip Oinam also echoes the sentiment, "While working with the Kolorbox I felt like being at home. The works I have showcased are drawn from my own experiences." He sees the success of the show as a big ticket to more galleries and collectors. Dinabandhu asserts that apart from the exposure he got the best part was the interaction and discussion he had amongst the artist and group while in the process of bringing out the show.
Aheibam Prahlad, an art enthusiast who came to see the exhibition says, "I thoroughly enjoyed the show as it was quite refreshingly unique. The featured artists used different languages to express their experiences and their works are totally relatable."
Even though there have been group shows wherein one can see the works of artists from the East and the North East, "Strokes from the East" is perhaps the first of its kind exclusively showcasing the works of artists from the region. Going by the success of the show, it sure seems like The Kolorbox will have a long and fruitful journey ahead. It remains to be seen how Delhi will receive its next show.
