Pointing out the differences between Manipuri performative tradition with that of the mainstream Indian one guided by Natya Shastra, Aribam Syam said those engaged in performing and visual arts should rediscover strength in “our own culture” with “our unique physiological feature”.
Commenting on how he has managed to showcase the intricacies of Manipuri culture worldwide through his works, Aribam Syam also emphasised on the need to nurture young talents in the art of filmmaking. He also made a fine distinction between what he called “movies” and “cinematic arts” arguing that “movies” had the tendencies to distance themselves from the finer aspects of filmmaking.
