Nagaland Chief Minister SC Jamir said
as and when final settlement to the Naga political
problem was arrived at involving all section of the
Naga people even before the "completion of the present
tenure of his Government", he would step down for the
new arrangment.
"I will be the happiest person to implement the new
agreement", the Chief Minister told this Correspondent
here at his official residence on Friday. "Therefore
the Congress party or the Congress Government in the
State should never be an obstacle for that kind of new
arrangement".
He however made it clear that "without involving
State, no Government (India) will bypass whether it is
Nagaland Government or Manipur Government or Arunachal
Government or Assam government or any Government".
Jamir was surprised to see that some section of people
had always projected him as an obstacle to the Naga
peace process. He said from the very beginning of the
Naga peace process, he had his own contributions
towards the process.
"I have my own contribution in 1964 cease fire and
also subsequent six rounds of political dialogue
between the Government of India and the Federal
Government of Nagaland", said Jamir. "And cease fire
of 1997 between the Government of India and NSCN (IM)
and also between the Government of India and the NSCN
(K) in 2001, I have my own contributions".
The Chief Minister reiterated that no final settlement
to the vexed Naga political problem could be arrived
at unless "all factions of Naga undergrounds including
overgrounds are involved".
"But by having said this, some section of Naga people
including my political opponents are misinterpreting
that I am obstructing the political dialogue between
the Government of India and the Naga underground
groups", Jamir stated, questioning, "How can you
exclude any section of the Naga people when their
future is to be decided".
The Chief Minister also expressed regret that while
they were doing all positive works for solution of
the Naga political problem, his political opponents
were saying that he was an obstacle to the process,
adding he failed to understand what their logics were.
On some people’s reaction to his recent remarks while
addressing at a meeting of Nagaland Guan Buras at
Dimapur that 16 tribes of Nagaland should have a final
say on the final solution of the Naga political
problem, Jamir said when he talked to Gaun Buras of
Nagaland, "how can I talked of Manipur or Assam or
Arunachal Pradesh". "It is beyond my jurisdiction", he
added.
"Since we have only sixteen tribes in Nagaland, I have
only said that time that any political settlement for
the future of the Naga people in the State, the
sixteen tribes of Nagaland should have the right to
know what kind of solution will be made", he said,
adding "It was nothing wrong and people should not
misinterpret it as I have no jurisdiction over other
States".
