A treatise on mind
- Part 3 -

It is instructed in the Scriptures, that sound has four forms in the human body, viz. Para (the undifferentiated sound that lies dormant), Pasyanti (the rotatory vibration of the causal body), Madhyama (sound form in the mental substance) and Vaikhari (the ordinary speech). The different forms of sound can be heard.
Vaikhari, through ears, Madhyama through mental eye, Pasyanti through consciousness and Para through mindless mind. Raja Yoga gives how to learn the way of unmind the mind and unlearn whatever is learnt.
When the mind attaches to a particular thing, the thing becomes a part of mind. For instance, a merchant when happens his godown burnt to ashes, he claims that he has been burnt to ashes. Actually the heat reached him when the godown is burnt. Anybody cries that he has lost whereas he himself is there. This is the mind that makes such a cry.
If we can cut relation to any being, anything, any idea, our minds become the state of unmind, the state of unlearn whatever is learnt. Still, there will exist mind and the mind can be viewed by someone in this body.
That someone is the Real being of Atman, the only existence. In such a stage, the moods, impulse, emotions, feeling, sentiment and others can do nothing to the man. Only then, the ferocious, the wild and wile mind can be perfectly controlled and the mind works as a pet dog to the enlightened Yogi – this is the way what the Yogis of yore describes about mind and its mysteries.
Swami Sivananda advised us to control the mind with the least words. For example, “get, get and forget”, “give, give and forgive” etc. The words emploted is very few, but the order of the Saint to the disciples and devotes are great, so great that to show in action will demand a lifetime.
We cannot imagine a man who is giving alms, giving anything, cash, kind, knowledge, help and lot of others has a necessity of forgiving the receivers. Is there any room for a philanthropist to forgive others? Yes, there is. It is a common occurrence in almost all families that the old parents are sent to old age centres, thought their children are rich enough to support them.
They say that, they actually love their parents, however they have no time to serve the aged people. The husband (the son of the parent) has to go to office early in the morning till late at night, the house wife also is an employee who has to please the employer either governmental or private authority, which becomes a must and hence cannot serve the aged people.
Moreover, they have got children for whom they have to devote and so on. Nut, the never count the time the young decent couple enjoy in Clubs or bars, enjoying other parties in the name of civilisation . What the old parents have to think then? The Officer was brought up, educated and made an officer by the now old parents.
The properties which had been collected so far by the now old persons is to be received by the officer as heir and is compelled to be given to the son, to whom giving and giving has been going on till death by the now old parents.
The old persons will necessarily feel the ungrateful attitude of the son, which will cause unsteady of mind at that age nearing death. The father or the mother would not meet a peaceful death. This is the way, now we are living this civilized Society. The only way to have a peaceful death, the dying person has nothing to do other than forgiving.
When the old parents recall the childhood stage of their son, the way how they trained him eating, going to school, clothing him and such other things, there would come the parental love to the ungrateful son.
Memorising such other things the hatred which was created by his actions, like sending and lodging them to the Old aged home, treating them with a neglected way etc, will aged away and love, which cannot be defeated by any cause, called True love will come up to the mind and thus forgiving the son can be easily possible, also they would have a peaceful departure for the unknown new world. How beautiful the advice is known now.
Similarly, “Get, Get and Forget” can be interpreted. We get a series of problems in our life; they may be interesting or not. Sometimes, the occasion may be a honour or a censure, joy or sorrow, gain or loss etc. These are all received by us. When an episode of joy is recalled, we feel something rejuvenated and otherwise uneasy.
The advice suggested that whatever we have received so far be forgotten. To forget is to remove the episode from the mental region, thereby the mind becomes fresh and unloaded. We need forgetfulness in the ageing days.
If the mind be cleared time and again, there will be no overloading to the mind and hence, the mind will be maintained peace and calm. Only two out of the many o the worshipful saint’s message may get peace of mind to any one who longed for it, that cannot be had from several hundreds of coins expended.
As we have enumerated the functions of the mind above, it seems to be invincible. It appears to be impossible to control the mind. But, it can be done, but very carefully. Various saints and sages suggested in a variety of manner to control the mind. Those who believe in Karma Yoga more, follow the Karma system and the Bhakti, the knowledge Systems etc. are given more important by their respective followers.
Actually, all the ways prescribed for the control of the mind are all useful. This is the mind that produces thoughts, and thoughts are the builders of this World. That is why, the learned says that the world is nothing but the creation of mind. It is obvious that when there is no wave in the mind, the mind seems to be inactive.
But, as and when there is vritti or whirlpool due to the force of likes and dislikes it becomes very strong, produces thought and other related things. The result is this World.
Thought has colour Red with black is the colour of an irritable one, yellow is that of spiritual person’s thought, green is that of a deep knowledged person’s thought, so on as described by the Scholars and sages. The colour of the thought can be easily seen by a Yogi.
The light enclosing the body which can be photographed today with a Kirlian Camera, developed by Baranouski of Russia in the early sixtees of the twentieth century shows the relative colours of the body covering light of the person. The complexion of the idol of Shri Krishna is said to be bluish which is interpreted as the indication of perfectly calm.
It is to be remembered that the colours of varieties of thoughts operating in a human body had already been tabulated by the mysterious Yogis and Saints, very early before the modern appliances are not produced. Kirlian Photography (camera) and such other devices only prove the truth.
Again, to unmind the mind or to unlearn the learnt be possible when the attachment of mind to “I” be changed to “Atma”. Atma is described in many ways and called by many names. The possessive idea of things and ideas to this ‘I’ which is considered limited with the walls of body, prana, name, place, time and condition be mingled to the unlimited one, the Atma and, then and there will be no mind. This unmind the mind.
The possessive thought is vanished. There will be no hatred, likes or dislikes and other forms of dualism.
Without conquering the mind, there will be no progress in the spiritual path. Man behaves to brutal nature when the mind embraces desire and divine nature when discards desire.
Wherever there is desire for fame, wealth and others, no king can rule according to the laws, no minister can execute in accordance with the rules, no judge can do the right judgement, no people can select anybody in the right manner to rule them. That is why we are feeling unsatisfy to the rulers anywhere.
