The sacking of Nagaland Power Minister Therie from the Council of Ministers by Chief Minister SC Jamir two weeks back has created quite a flutter between the Angami Public Organization (APO) and Legislators mostly belonging to Angami and Chakhesang tribes.
The APO has on May 18 expressed its unhappiness over the removal of Therie from the Council of Minister and the organization has further reaffirmed to stand by its earlier decision.
Describing as "unfortunate" the removal of Therie from the Council of Ministers under the given situation in transition for all Nagas, the APO in a special meeting here elucidated that the views or opinions expressed by any political party did not necessarily reflect or represent the voice of the Angamis in general.
While reacting to the statement made by the Tenyimia Legislators wherein it supported Therie's removal, the APO has appealed to the Government to exercise utmost care and spare no effort to arrest any form of conflict in the larger interest of the general public.
Nagaland Home Minister Nephiu Rio has already denied his participation in the previous two meetings of Angami and Tenyimia legislators wherein the legislatros endorsed the decision of State Chief Minister SC Jamir's sacking of Power Minister K Therie from the Council of Ministers.
The Home Minister has already signaled his disapproval the way Therie was removed from the Council of Ministers, though Chief Minister has the prerogative to drop or induct any legislator as Minister in his Council of Ministers. He further defended the former Minister as one of the hardworking and efficient Ministers, besides "an upright Naga political leader".
Meanwhile, 16th ACCC (I) has questioned the ouster of Therie from the Council of Ministers. It said the former Minister was a mandated representative of the constituency and further expressed anguish over the manner in which some of the leaders were reportedly summoned to sign the press statement, which, according to the Committee, was only an ulterior motive to confound the party functionaries. The 16th ACCC (I) also reiterated its support in the
leadership of Therie and the political ideologies he stood for the programmes and policies laid down in the manifesto and the Committee of the Congress.
It supported the press statement issued by Kachulo Khape and Chosanyi Rose, Vice President and Treasurer of Phek DCC respectively for the larger interest of the party in the district and public in general. It also appreciated the wisdom of the APO, CYF, KPO, citizens of Phek town and also individuals, organizations and leaders who had stood with the Committee in the cause of Naga political aspiration.
