18 Sikh Celebrates Independence Day

18 SIKH under aegis of 9 Sector Assam Rifles, IGAR(S) celebrated 66th Independence Day on 15 August in all companies and the battalion headquarters at Tulihal with great zeal and enthusiasm.
The troops of 18 SIKH including Police Officers and Constables of police stations, Imphal West Commando representatives, students of schools, NCC Students, village panchayat heads and local population also joined in ther celebrations to mark 65 years of independence.
The Independence Day celebrations started with the Tri-colour being hoisted which was followed by National Anthem being sung by all present on the occasion. This was followed by an address on the momentous occasion enumerating the role of the armed forces in independence struggle and their role post independence also. The unit thanked all civilian and police personnel present on the occasion for showing support and enthusiasm in celebration of the Independence Day despite the ban imposed by UG groups. The unit assured the local population that 18 SIKH is here for the betterment of the Manipuri people.
Also, taking this opportunity, the unit promised the local students to organise career counselling and sports camps in the coming months to boost up the hidden talent of the state. NCC cadets of JAWAHAR NAVODAYA VIDYALAYA, KHUMBONG requested for “weapon display” and firing to be organised for them and the Unit promised to organise the same in near future. The event culminated with interaction between troops and locals over a cup of tea which was organised by 18 SIKH.
