Imphal Airport expansion hits green hurdle
Seven Sisters Post | Yumnam Rupachandra | Imphal (June 25):
The Manipur government’s ambitious plan to upgrade the Imphal Tulihal Airport to international standard has hit the environment roadblock with the Union ministry of environment and forest (MoEF) stating that the Manipur government has not yet applied for the mandatory clearance for the “A” category airport.
However, on visiting the project area, this correspondent found the construction of boundary wall of the newly acquired land going on.
The wall, when it is completed, will cut off at least 135 families within 644.31 acres of which the Manipur government has acquired. The acquisition process is yet to be over with several families yet to take compensation and vacate their homes, having moved the court challenging the acquisition process.
