Imphal, December 26:
Urging the Government to abide by the MoU it signed with the Zeliangrong Students' Union, Tamenglong on May 25 this year during a meeting with the Chief Minister, the student body today said that it would be constrained to launch a series of agitation if the Government fails to respect the MoU.
A statement issued by the student body today said that the contents of the MoU included the construction of a retaining wall near the Barak river as well as to construct a new Makru bridge.
This point was raised after a joint field inspection of the two bridges came across many discrepancies.
The State Government had earlier announced that the Tamei-Tanning road would be constructed under funding from the NEC, if the local MLA Awangbou Newmei and the ZSUM recommend one capable local contractor, said the student body and added that the local MLA had reportedly recommended one contractor for the same.
However the State Government has been playing hide and seek all the way, alleged the student body and added that besides this the Government has been neglecting the other demands of ZSUM.
In short, the Government has failed to look into the demands put forward by tribal students, it alleged.
Warning the Government to abide by the agreements reached earlier, the student body has also urged the department concerned to take up the necessary developmental works.
The student body also expressed hope that the contents of the MoU will be implemented in letter and spirit in the interest of the people of Tamenglong district.
Village Authority cries foul : The Village Authority Council, Tamenglong has submitted a memorandum to Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh to take up fitting action against the SDO of Tamenglong block and sought his immediate removal.
Listing their grievances against the officer, the Council said that his prolonged absence has hampered the smooth functioning of the SDO office and added that the officer has failed to implement NREG Scheme and failed to pay the wages of the workers after the completion of work.
The summary electoral roll revision, slated to be submitted on December 2, was not submitted due to the prolonged absence of the SDO, alleged the Council and added that the completed election papers of village authority in respect of Tamenglong block, which was to be put up before the Deputy Commissioner by December 11 was not forwarded due to the SDO's absence.
The Council then urged the Chief Secretary to remove the SDO from Tamenglong at the earliest possible and instead depute an able and dedicated officer.
