Imphal, October 28, 2009:
Members of various trade unions in the state, employees and workers have staged a sit-in-protest today at Keishampat Junction against the price hike of commodities, downsizing of employees and irregular release of salaries to employees and workers.
Members of different trade unions like INTUC, BMS, AITUC, CITU, HMS, AIUTUC, AICCTU, UTUC, and TUCC have participated in the sit in protest today.
The protestors demanded appropriate action against the price hike and to ensure the release of PDS items to all concerned.
It demanded the implementation of labour law without any discrimination and to announce package for sectors affected by recession.
The protestors also demanded the authority to remove the provisions in the Unorganised Workers Social Security Act, 2008 relating to the restriction of persons from Below Poverty Line enjoying the schemes under the Act.
Among others, the demands included the setting up of Highway Protection Force along NH-39 in order to give protection to truck and passenger bus services operators and to release employees and workers salaries on time.
