Along with organising a training programme on the cultivation method to be adopted under System of Rice Intensification for early cropping, high yielding variety paddy seeds of IR-64 and PAC-807 have been distributed among the farmers of Wangoi Assembly Constituency in Imphal West district today.
Organised under the aegis of Dept of Agriculture, Government of Manipur, in all 530 kgs of IR-64 paddy seeds and 300 kgs of PAC-807 paddy seeds were distributed among the farmers under the Micro Mode of Management programme of the Union Ministry of Agriculture.
The function was attended by MLA of Wangoi A/C Salam Joy as chief guest and Director of Agriculture L Phalendro as president.
SE Agriculture K Manoranjan, ICDP Rice Scheme in-charge L Ibomcha and Oil Seed and Pulses Scheme in-charge Ch Jugindro were also among those who were present at the occasion as special guests.
Speaking at the occasion, Ibomcha pointed out that he had not come across adoption of System of Rice Intensification among the farmers of Wangoi A/C and appealed to them to give a try of the method.
Jugindro said that State Agriculture Dept has not only provided assistance for cultivation for oil seed widely among the farmers but also peas in their field.
Manoranjan observed that adoption of new technique of farming to increase production is the need of the hour.
