Imphal, Sep 04:
As the meeting between the RIMS authority led by its Director Prof L Fimate and the RIMS Students' Union held today at the office of the Director failed to single out the students involved in the ragging case of August 25, the students have collectively accepted the responsibility for the incident and tendered an apology.
They also agreed to pay a punitive fine of Rs 5000 collectively to the authority of the institute.
On the night of August 25, some senior students of the institutes forced the male freshers to wear underpants over their trousers and walk around the campus of the crowded hospital.
Luckily for the freshers, police intervened in the ragging drama and they were saved from further embarrassment.
Even though seven senior students were picked up by police in connection with the ragging, they were released the same night.
Today's meeting was after the RIMS Director had instructed the hostel wardens to furnish the names of the students involved in the ragging incident.
Pleading to condone their colleagues, the students pledged to stay away and not to allow such activities at the institute in future.
On its part, the RIMS authority agreed to withdraw the cases against the students over the incident.
A team of reporters visiting the Lamphel police station found that no FIR was registered against the incident.
The reporters also learnt that no complaint was lodged in the police station.
RIMS officials disclosed that the freshers did not make any written complaint.
Nevertheless RIMS authority acted following report of the incident in some papers, they added.
