Imphal, August 10:
The State Cabinet which met today discussed a wide range of issues, with the restrictions imposed on the media being the foremost agenda.
Talking to the media, a source said that after minute discussions the Cabinet decided to reject the suggestions put forward by the Editors' Forum, Manipur and All Manipur Working Journalists' Union to change the Government order of August 2 to a circular.
The order issued by the Principal Secretary (Home) had decreed that the media will be barred from publishing any news item issued by the underground outfits in any form, press releases or even in the advertisement sections.
The Cabinet however decided to amend the first point in the order.
The August 2 order reads as "All items attributed to Unlawful Organisations, organised gangs, organisations, terrorists and terrorists related organisations considered to be subversive and a threat to the integrity of the State and the country." The amended clause reads as "Publication of seditious, subversive literature affecting integrity of the Nation".
Other than this there is no change in the other clauses contained in the order of August 2.Another important point that was passed was the creation of 17 posts for Manipur Civil Services, 12 posts for Manipur Police Services, 12 posts for Sub-Divisional Commissioner, 25 posts for Manipur Secretarial Service.
The discussion on the Police Reforms Act was deferred to a latter date.
