In commemoration of the mass anti-foreigner movement launched under the aegis of All Manipur Students' Union in 1980 during which two student activists namely Potsangbam Premananda and Huidrom Lokendra were killed, 27th Meekap Thokpa Numit has been observed at Chinga Macha where the memorial of the martyred two student activists have been set up.

As resolution to the effect of launching a sustained campaign for the protection of indigenous people of Manipur has also been adopted and kicked off during the public meeting held as part of the observance function.
The main highlight of the observance function organised under the auspices of AMSU include offering of homage and paying of floral tributes at the memorial of the two martyred student activists.
However, the actual observance began since 2 am along with rendering of devotional and patriotic songs.
At 9.30 am, former AMSU president RK Itocha hoisted the flag of the student body and led a large number of people including students in offering floral tributes to the memorial tomb.
