Imphal, Aug 25: Keenly contested matches marked the opening day of the Seventh S Birendra Singh Memorial Super division Football League tournament for Imphal West district at THAU ground, thangmeiband today.

While the opening clash between KRYPSA, Naoremthong and MBSU, Wahengbam Leikai ended on a goalless draw, NISA, Thangmeiband edged past GC CRPF, Langjing 3-2.The NISA breakthrough came with the match only three minutes old when Kh Kiran found the CRPF goal.

While Kh Bintu doubled the lead in the 58th minute CRPF's L Imocha reduced the goal deficit with his first of two goals in the contest striking home in the 65th minute.

After T Suraj restored NISA's two goal advantage, Imocha tried to salvage some pride for the CRPF side with his second in the 78th minute but tight defending of the Thangmeiband side ensured the contest ended in their favour.
