Host Manipur hung on to an early goal against Orissa to retain the title of the Senior Women's National Football Championship today.
The Governor Gurbachan Jagat has conveyed congratulations to players and officials of the champion team.
With the win in the final match of the championship's 18th edition played today at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium, Manipur claimed its 16th title.
West Bengal had won the title in the inaugural edition in 1992 and again in the 1997 championship.
The all important goal that fetched Manipur its 13th consecutive title was scored by Y Kamala in the eighth minute.
The closing ceremony of the championship hosted by All manipur Football Association under the aegis of All india Football Federation was held with Education Minister L Jayentakumar Singh and State Planning Board Chairman Bijoy Koijam as the chief guest and president respectively.
In all 20 States participated at the championship that commenced from March 7 at different venues of the State capital.
