Imphal, February 13: The qualifying matches of the All India AITA Ranking Tennis Championship began at Officers� Club, Lamphel today.

The qualifying round was originally scheduled to feature 49 players from where eight selected players would slug out with seeded players in the 32 Format system of the final round.

The number of qualifying round matches had to be reduced as some players failed to confirmed participation.

Out of three from the hosts State two managed to defeat their respective rivals while the third entrant - Superman suffered defeat at the hands of Tamil Nadu�s Bashker who won at 6-0, 6-0.N Premjit recorded 6-2, 6-1 win over Prakash Seta of Bihar as Brojen was declared the winner when his Tamil Nadu rival Krishna failed to show up.
