AFA thrashed Veikhang 4-0 in the final of the 10th All Tangkhul Football Challenge Trophy at Mini Stadium Pakshi Ground, Hun-dung today and walked off with the Rs 12,000 top prize.
With only a slender lead of one goal at the end of first half the entire complexion of the match changed after resumption as AFA players dominating the proceeding slammed in three more goals for the comprehensive win margin.
Reisangmei, who scored two goals in the match opened the score account for AFA in the 5th minute for the solitary goal lead at the break.
Compared to the energetic performance of AFA players after the break Veikhang ran out of steam as the marauding opponent strikers assisted by the schemers lay siege to score at regular intervals.
After Samatai ruffled the Veikhang net in the 52nd minute Reisangmei's second goal of the match came in the 66th while Wunganing dashed any hope for Veikhang's comeback with a late strike (87th) to aid the team lay hand on the glittering trophy and the handsome cash amount.
Veikhang had to be satisfied with cash prize of Rs 6000 besides the trophy.
Songa and Rollingson of AFA and Veikhang's Kazipmi were yellow carded for unsporting behaviour by referee H Khamba Singh who was assisted by James Kr and Rabichandra while Ajit Meitei supervised the tie as fourth official.
In all nine team clustered into two groups had competed in the tournament that started from May 8.The best player award of the tournament was bagged by AFA's Rolling-son with the best scorer title going to team-mate Samatai.
Samatai was also awarded for scoring the only hattrict of the tournament.
Veikhang's Ringphapam L was adjudged as the best goalkeeper.
All the awards carried cash prize.
The closing function was held with an impressive display by children of LM School.
