Imphal, August 29: Host Manipur collected 12 gold, six silver and six bronze medals on the opening day of the 1st North East junior Athletic Championship at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium today.

Even though Assam and Tripura are tied on gold and silver medal haul, the former is placed in second position with two bronze medals compared to one by their nearest rivals.

Nagaland on two silver and same number of bronze is at fourth place followed by Mizoram and Meghalaya in joint fifth on one silver and three bronze medals each.

the championship was inaugurated by PHE Minister TN Haokip while Sports Minister N Biren attended as the president.
