Meiraa veterans win hockey title

Imphal, December 26 2009: Meiraa, Bashikhong pipped YCCIC, Ahallup Kontha 6-5 via the tie-breaker in the final of the 3rd State Level Veteran Hockey Tournament at Khuman Lampak Hockey stadium, today.

After a 2-2 normal time draw, four Meiraa players converted their shots into goal with one missing the mark compared to only three YCCIC success from the spot.

Earlier, Meiraa surged ahead on G Tombi Sharma's 13 minute goal which A Khelendro equalised with a 15 minute penalty stroke and M Oken made it 2-1 for the Ahallup veterans in the 16th minute.

However, Th Ojit struck in the 36th minute to eventually pave the way for the team's penalty shoot-out championship triumph.

The champions walked home richer by Rs 5000 with the runners-up side presented Rs 3000 .
