Imphal, Aug 25: Manipur launched its campaign in the 8th sub-Junior and 3rd Cadet National Fencing Championship wresting seven gold and three silver medals in various categories at Guwahati Indoor Stadium today.

Punjab with two gold and same number of silver is at second place while Tamil Nadu at one gold and two silvers is in third place.

manipur's golden run on the opening day started with the sub-junior boys epee team trio of Roshan, Gautam and James defeating the Tamil Nadu fencers.

Cadet boys' sabre team comprising of Kishan, Salik, Ashanta and Rabi added the second gold to the State tally defeating Tamil Nadu as the foil team in the same division made up of Raju, Loyalakpa, Robin and Ashanta bulged the yellow metal haul to three outsmarting the host fencers.

cadet boys epee team of Ranjan, Lemba and Roshan ensured the State's comfortable gold lead drubbing Punjab boys 15-5 as the cadet girls foil team made up of Cherish, Romola and Sayaluxmi provided the day's sixth gold defeating Punjab 15-13.The cadet girls' foil team added the seventh gold.

The silver medals came in the cadet girls sabre team, sub-junior girls' sabre team and cadet girls' epee team events.
