ESU enter Loktak Trophy semis

Imphal, February 20, 2010: ESU, Wangkhei edged past AIM, Khabam by three goals to two to seal its place in the last four stage of the 3rd Loktak Trophy football tournament, as second best team of the group round contest.

As ESU had better goal average compared to other second-placed teams of group A, B and C, the Wangkhei side took on AIM, Khabam the lone side in Group D, in the last qualifying round match of the tournament at Moirang today.

A Tomba provided the ESU breakthrough only eight minutes into match which the Khabam side cancelled out through Kenedy's 33rd minute strike.

Kh Minthing retained the ESU lead in the 73rd and Ph Cheitei added another to the team score in the 76th minute.

Th Vandana's 89th minute goal for AIM failed to the change the match result and ESU advanced to the semifinals where it will play MBSU, Wahengbam leikai on February 22. The first semifinal on February 21 will be between AMOFA, Moirang and TRAU, Kwakeithel.
