Dihcham volleyball tourney begins

Tamenglong, November 14 2008: Defending champion Double First of the 11 Assam rifles defeated Namkaoluang Youth Club by straight sets in the opening match of the 2nd Dihcham Volleyball Tournament at Mini Stadium here in the district headquarters today.

Besides Double First, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Taodaijang Youth Club, All Tabanglong Students' Union, Joint team of MP&MR, Chabagan Youth Club, Zeliangrong Sports and Cultural Association and Nine Stars also won opening round matches.

the tournament being held on league cum knockout format.

The tournament is being organised to commemorate launch of Dihcham daily, the only newspaper published in Rongmei (Kabui) dialect.

The inaugural program- me was held with Commandant of 11 Assam Rifles Col Pradeep Chhonkar and SDO (Tamenglong) Joseph Pauline as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively.

In all 20 teams are competition in the tournament with the final slated for November 16 .
