Women's Sports Competition - Day 2 Imphal East take lead in athletics with 5 medals

Imphal, November 09 2015: Imphal East took lead in the athletics event with 3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze on day two of the State Level Women's Sports Competition, organised by Department of Youth Affairs and Sports (DYAS) under the aegis of Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan (RGKA), today at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal.

In today's athletics event, S Inakhunbi Chanu (IE) with 1.30 m, Kh Yaiphabi (IE) with 1.25 m and Nenglolmoi (Churachandpur) with 1.20 m respectively claimed the first, second and third positions in the high jump event.

In the shot put event, Hoi Neikim Sante (Churachandpur) - 8 m, N Sandhyarani (TBL) - 7.65 m, Thethem (Churachandpur) - 7.50 m won the first, second and third position respectively.

In the 3000 m race, S Sonia (IW) took 12.37.38 sec to emerge champion while Th Pushpa (TBL) and Sahila (TBL) finished on 13.04.51 and 13.18.31 sec to bag the second and third placed title.

Athletes in action during 100 m race

In the 400 m race, K Jibanlata (IE) - 1.08.00 sec, P Kheroda (IW) - 1.12.16 sec and Kh Tombi (IW) - 1.12.90 sec won the first, second and third position respectively.

In the 100 m race, A Bankim (IW) - 14.05 sec, Sh Rubani (TBL) - 14.32 sec and M Priya (IE) - 14.66 sec won the first, second and third position respectively.

In discus throw, Rabina (Senapati) - 22.78, N Sandhayrani (TBL) - 21.56 and A Sapana (IW) - 19.88 secured the first, second and third place respectively.

Tennis : Thoubal emerged the team champion defeating IE.

In the singles event, Ch Charmi (TBL) claimed an easy 2-0 (6-0, 6-0) win against Kanimala (IE).

In another match, Y Agu (TBL) downed Kalangkanu Kamei 2-0 (6-3, 6-1).Basketball : Tamenlong clinched the title by defeating Bishnupur 37-28 .

The third placed title went to Imphal East after defeating Churachandpur 31-6. Table Tennis : Thoubal lifted the table tennis trophy while Imphal West and Imphal East settled for the second and third placed title.

In the singles final, N Ana (TBL) beat M Bindiya (IW) 3-1 while Ak Bitu (TBL) edged past Th Monika to bag the third placed title.

In the doubles final, Ak Bitu and Th Monika of Thoubal defeated M Bindiya and Languimei Kamei of Imphal West 3-2.The third placed title went to IE.

Badminton : Thoubal emerged the team champion while IE and Chandel bagged the second and third placed title respectively.

In the singles final, Rubasha Hussain (IE) defeated Puja Kamei (Chandel).

In the third placed title match, W Anari (Chandel) beat S Sonia (TBL).

In the doubles final, M Somibala and S Sonia of Thoubal defeated Chandel district W Anari and Puja Kamei of Chandel 21-9, 21-17.The third placed title was bagged by Imphal East.

Handball : Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishnupur booked the semi-final berths today.

Tomorrow, Imphal East will meet Imphal West in the first semi-final while Thoubal will will play Bishnupur in the second semi-final.

Volleyball : Imphal East will clash with Bishnupur in the volleyball final tomorrow.

The third placed match will be played between Chandel and Churachandpur.
